Johnstone Plumbers and Heating are proud to offer Solar Thermal as an option for your home or office.

What Is Solar Thermal?

A solar thermal system uses the energy from the sun to heat up water to use in the home. The way a solar thermal works is quite simple: it absorbs the heat from the sun with panels that are called solar collectors.

The heated water or heat-transfer fluid then runs from the collectors to your hot water cylinder. This way a solar water heating system can provide your home with free heated water.

Solar thermal panels are not to be confused with solar panels, which use the energy from the sun to generate electricity. As such, solar panels and solar thermals are two very different technologies.

Using solar energy has many advantages, among them the money saved on energy bills, the reduction of your carbon footprint, and low maintenance, making solar thermal a great investment.

You will generate approximately 80% of your hot water needs in the summer, and approximately 30% needs in the winter. This is a huge saving, especially with rising fuel costs these days.

  • Solar thermal should work all year round during the day, but consumers will probably need to heat the water further in the winter months
  • Solar thermal can save on fuel bills
  • Solar thermal may be eligible for renewable heat incentives
  • Solar thermal can cost a lot less to install than other microgeneration technologies
  • Solar thermal costs range between £2000 and £6000 approximately.
